Curious about creating your own 3D models but not sure where to start? This class introduces the fundamentals of 3D modeling and explores three popular design programs: Tinkercad, FreeCAD, and SOLIDWORKS for Makers. We’ll cover the basic features, tools, and workflows of each program, highlighting their differences and helping you understand which software might best fit your needs and experience level.

During the presentation, we’ll demonstrate how to create the same basic part in all three programs, showing how each software approaches the design process and how simple shapes and features can be combined to create a functional 3D model. Whether you’re brand new to 3D modeling or looking to expand your design skills, you’ll gain a better understanding of how to get started designing your own parts for 3D printing.

Bring your questions and ideas! We’ll leave time for discussion and can help troubleshoot specific modeling questions as time allows.
