2026 Alabama ARES Simulated Emergency Test (SET)

Ever wondered how amateur radio operators support emergency communications when normal systems go down? Come see it for yourself!

As part of the 2026 Alabama ARES Simulated Emergency Test (SET), we’ll be simulating an emergency communications distribution point at GigaParts. This year’s scenario involves a Category 5 hurricane making landfall in Mobile and moving north toward Huntsville, bringing conditions similar to those experienced during Hurricane Isaias, including destructive winds, heavy rainfall, possible tornadoes, flooding, and widespread power outages.

Our team will be passing emergency messages and coordinating information just as we would during a real-world disaster, helping demonstrate how amateur radio supports emergency response when conventional communications may be disrupted.

This is a simulated emergency exercise; the hurricane scenario is fictional.

Licensed Radio Amateurs who might be in attendance are encouraged to participate by checking in to the main emergency net, and/or serving short 15 minute shifts as a Net Control, or Net Liaison. And/or helping with keeping logs.

These are things that contribute points to the total for Madison County and the state of Alabama.
Simply passing the mic for check-ins generates points.
