Operating Modes: From the CW to WSJT Modes
Explore the most common HF communication modes and how each is used to carry information over the air. This session compares CW, SSB, RTTY, FT8/FT4, SSTV, and PSK31, with a brief overview of other digital modes used in amateur radio.
We'll examine the strengths and limitations of each mode, including bandwidth, data rate, and signal-to-noise performance. Using spectrum displays, waterfall views, and audio examples, you'll see what these signals look like, hear how they sound, and gain a better understanding of how they perform under different operating conditions. Recorded QSOs will also be used to demonstrate the typical exchanges for each mode and highlight their practical applications.
