Meet Your Instructor

Dr. Rob Suggs, NN4NT brings both the analytical mind of a NASA scientist and the practical wisdom of a seasoned contester to this introduction to amateur radio competition. With over 50 years of ham radio experience since first earning his license as WA4KVO in 1974, Rob has enjoyed the full spectrum of amateur radio activities, including casual contesting alongside his DXing and public service work.

As a semi-retired NASA scientist who has worked on major space programs at Marshall Space Flight Center and Johnson Space Center, Rob understands the importance of systematic approaches and strategic thinking – skills that translate perfectly to successful contest operation. His leadership roles in the NASA MSFC Amateur Radio Club and North Alabama DX Club have given him extensive experience mentoring new operators and helping them discover the various facets of amateur radio.

Rob's passion for helping new hams get on the air and build their stations makes him the ideal guide for those taking their first steps into the exciting world of amateur radio contests. His approach emphasizes fun, learning, and gradual skill development rather than intimidating technical complexity.
